Saint Petersburg Forestry Research Institute (SPbFRI) is working on solving a wide range of industry tasks.
The Institute has significant scientific and technical potential. Our specialists have a high level of qualification and competence in the implementation of various projects and tasks, in the development of methodological and analytical materials, and also contribute to the implementation of research results in the practice of the country's forestry.
The institute staff has many years of recognized experience in climate change impact assessment. Thus, the research work carried out by SPbFRI on climate impact assessment is used in the preparation of the position of the Russian Federation on activities in the forestry sector of the economy on the main agenda items of the international negotiation process in the field of climate change.
SPbFRI has more than 20 years of experience in the development of standards, technologies, economic approaches for the implementation of the model of intensive use, and reproduction of forests in Russia.
SPbFRI provides a full range of services in the field of forest genetics, including works on genomic selection and genome editing of plants, based on high-throughput sequencing and omics technologies.
The design and development activity of the institute is a developed and tested system of artificial reforestation using innovative technical and technological solutions. The Institute carries out a number of scientific and practical works: from a preliminary assessment of the possibility of creating, to a complete design of a nursery at the construction stage, commissioning and adaptation of growing technology to climatic conditions.
SPbFRI has many years of experience in providing services for the suppression of unwanted herbaceous and tree-shrub vegetation at various forestry facilities and non-agricultural lands, for conducting forest pathological examinations of plantations, as well as establishing and growing targeted forest plantations.
Research staff of SPBFRI has many years of experience in providing consulting services in the field of forest relations for organizations of various levels. Expert activities include assessment and analysis of the current state of forestry, the economic situation, advising forest industry enterprises, etc.
