Recreational use of forests
One important factor in forest management is creation of favorable environment for human recreation. For this purpose scientists are engaged in formation of biologically durable and aesthetically perfect plantings suitable for recreation and are resistant to human impacts.
Laboratory specialists monitoring of forest ecosystems St. Petersburg Forestry Research Institute carried out work on valuation of recreational activities in protected forests.

Criteria characterizing success of forest management on recreational areas, combined into three groups
- Quality of individual ecosystems and all forest fund
- Quality of infrastructure and organization of manufacture
- Quality and level of using recreational resources
- Rational organization of recreational activities in a particular area allows receive additional forest revenue.
