Information technology in the protection of forests against fires

In online mode, information on forest fires, on fire-prevention facilities, and associated forest fire resources is being tracked. Information entered through the program is displayed in different layers of the PC maps, and includes information on forest fires and their contours, information about facilities and resources of firefighting purposes, weather conditions, wildfire hazard, etc. The user of the software system can enter and edit information directly from these maps. Within the software package the following problems associated with the planning and operational management of the forest fire services are solved:

  • calculation of the constitution
  • calculation of the structure and modes of operation
  • prediction and assessment of fire hazard due to weather conditions
  • forecast of forest fire
  • choosing the most effective tactics, techniques and tools for the suppression of them

Forest fire suppression

At FBU “SPbNIILH” a system to support management decision-making in the fight against forest fires is being developed. The system is a set of programs that predict the development of forest fire, depending on forest growth and weather conditions and terrain. In addition, it will imitate the options of forest fire suppression by using different tactics, tools and methods for it. The result of the work of the system is the choice of the most effective option which provides a minimum of damage and costs associated with the forest fire.
