The scientists of Saint-Petersburg Forestry Research Institute met professor and students of University of Eastern Finland

On 10 April 2014 a meeting of Institute scientists with group of University of Eastern Finland University students and their supervisor Timo Karjalainen, Professor of Finland Forest Research Institute (Metla) took place in Saint-Petersburg Forestry Research Institute. Young researchers from Finland came to Saint-Petersburg according to the Russian Federation Northwest forestry study program within the framework of study tour of Northwestern Region forest industry enterprises and Saint-Petersburg State Forestry Engineering University. The Eastern Finland University was the organizer of this tour.

I. A. Vasilyev, Director of Saint-Petersburg Forestry Research Institute and Timo Karjalainen, Professor of Forest Research Institute (Metla) addressed the welcoming speech to the participants.

During the meeting the participants could learn more about the activity general conception of Saint-Petersburg Forestry Research Institute, main areas of research activities and the scheduler of the research work of the Institute and also activity of the Young Scientists Professional Board of the Federal Forestry Agency. The researchers of Saint-Petersburg Forestry Research Institute presented their reports, which provoked a keen interest of the guests. A discussion took place after speeches, during which all the arisen questions were discussed.

The meeting was held in the scope of Russian-Finnish collaboration and also on the basis of Memorandum of Understanding between Saint-Petersburg Forestry Research Institute and Metla by 10 February, 2010.

Such events promote strengthening of coordination of Russia and Finland research and educational institutions; organization of collaborate research on mutually advantageous terms; assistance to access of young researchers to unique plants available by associates; and also exchange of information and rise in standard of knowledge of forestry state and operation specifics in various countries.
