The next round of climate talks has ended in Bonn

Deputy director for academic work of the  SPbFRI A.V. Konstantinov as a member of the interdepartmental delegation of the Russian Federation took part in the 46th session of the subsidiary bodies of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), which was held from 8 to 18 May 2017 in Bonn (Germany). The third session of the first session of the Special Working Group on the Paris Agreement, established to develop the implementation rules and mechanisms adopted in December 2015 and the Paris Agreement that entered into force in November 2016, was held during the current session.

The conference was attended by more than 3900 participants, including 2000 representatives of the Parties to the UNFCCC, 1800 representatives of UN bodies and agencies, intergovernmental organizations and civil society organizations, as well as 70 representatives of the media.

During the current session, much of the work was devoted to reinvigorating the practical implementation of the Paris Agreement through a balanced technical discussion within the three UNFCCC subsidiary bodies. In its conclusions on the outcome of the ongoing negotiations, the Ad Hoc Working Group on the Paris Agreement formulated an intersessional work plan ahead of the 23rd Conference of the Parties to the UNFCCC for each substantive agenda item, including, inter alia, the operationalization of the Paris Agreement mechanisms for mitigation and adaptation, financing and strengthening the capacity of developing countries, monitoring the achievement of the UNFCCC goal of stabilizing greenhouse gas concentrations in the atmosphere at a level that would not allow dangerous anthropogenic impact on the climate system.
