FBE “SPbFRI” holds events dedicated to the Russia-wide Forestry Awareness Day

During the month of March 2015 the Federal Forestry Agency in conjunction with local agencies and subordinate organisations are marking the nation-wide Forestry Awareness Day, timed to coincide with the International Forest Day which is celebrated all over the world on the 21st of March. International Forest Day or Worldwide Day for the Protection of Forests was founded in 1971 and to this day is held annually.

With each day the surface area of the Earth’s forests is steadily declining, leading to illegal and negative processes which have global implications for the natural world as well as human activity. In light of this, the main goals of International Forest Day are to raise awareness amongst the planet’s inhabitants to the issue of forest conservation, the value of forest ecosystems, their present condition as well as the primary measures for their protection and restitution.

Within the framework for participation in the commemoration of the Russia-Wide Forestry Awareness Day, employees of the FBE “SPbFRI” are holding talks about forests at schools in St. Petersburg’s Viborskiy region. Leading scientists of the institute will organize seminars for young students on the theme “the history of forest management organization in Russia.”
