Russian-Finnish Seminar was held at Saint-Petersburg Forestry Research Institute

On the 29th of November, 2013 a Russian-Finnish Seminar was held at Saint-Petersburg Forestry Research Institute in the form of a video conference. The goal of the Seminar is to build partner relations and search for collaboration modes between Russian and Finnish scientists in order to acquire new knowledge, develop technology and innovations, as well as for practical realization of scientific developments in areas of mutual interest.

Great attention was paid to the following actual issues:

  • research in the field of climate changes;
  • genetics and forest resource breeding;
  • plantation forest cultivation;
  • functional modeling of planting material growing processes with a closed root system;
  • meliorative systems in the forests of Karelian isthmus;
  • international collaboration prospects.

The general consensus during the discussion was that the Seminar should kick start a long and fruitful work on a whole range of issues and using various forms of collaboration.

A draft resolution was adopted according to the results of the seminar.
