The Second “European Forest Week” was started in Finland

International events connected to the the second European Forest Week began on the 9th of December, 2013 in Rovaniemi (Finland). A Joint Session of the UN’s European Economic Commission Committee on forests and forestry and FAO European Forestry Commission (METSA 2013) is planned for the week. Information having to do with current trends in timber trade will be discussed, as well as private sector participation issues, actual problems of world forest genetic resources and food safety, the role of the forest sector in “green” economy, sustainable forestry management and others.

On the 10th of December, the next meeting of the Working Group on sustainable forestry of Russian-Finnish Intergovernmental Commission for Economic Cooperation was opened. Main topics of the meeting: bioenergetics, forest surveying issues, illegal logging and preparation of joint projects in the field of forestry. The Director of FBE “SpbFRI” I.A. Vasiliev made a report during the Forum.

The European Forest Week will end on the 13th of December.
