Saint-Petersburg Forestry Research Institute joins the international initiative regarding “Earth Hour” organized by World Wide Fund for Nature and will cut off the institute building fronts lightning on 29 March 2014 from 8.30 a.m. to 9.30 a.m.

Steptchenko, Saint-Petersburg Forestry Research Institute Deputy Director for Regional Development as a member of the Russian delegation under the head of Federal Forestry Agency Deputy Administrator A. Panfilov took part in the European Forest Institute International Workshop “Russia-EU”: prevention of forest fires of various scales”.

(11-12 March 2014, Riga, Latvia) Alexander A. Steptchenko, Saint-Petersburg Forestry Research Institute Deputy Director for Regional Development took part in the EU4BIO International Workshop on Bioenergetics.

EU4BIO is the second international workshop dedicated to the issues of bioenergetics. The main idea of the event was to share the accumulated experience in the field of bioenergetics and biotechnologies.

On 21 March 2014 the II Research and Practice Conference for young scientists “Krona-2014″ took place in Saint-Petersburg Forestry Research Institute. The event was on the occasion of “All-Russian Day of Forest Knowledge” and “International Day of Forests” declared by UN General Assembly.

On 13 March 2014 the workshop on potential strengthening for regional scientists in the field of scientific basis for “Stop the Warming: Analysis by Regions (BVSA/LAK/ECA), Reasons for Ensuring Stability to Climatic Variations” concluded the work in Potsdam, Germany. One of the experts of the workshop was Artyom Konstantinov, Saint-Petersburg Forestry Research Institute Deputy Director for Science.

International events connected to the the second European Forest Week began on the 9th of December, 2013 in Rovaniemi (Finland). A Joint Session of the UN’s European Economic Commission Committee on forests and forestry and FAO European Forestry Commission (METSA 2013) is planned for the week.

According to the explanation notes, the Foundation is intended to improve the efficiency of the spending of State Treasury funds destined for scientific research and development. It will be created in order to support fundamental and exploratory research and for the formation of leading research teams in various fields.

From the 4th to 6th of December in Vologda, the International Exposition “Russian Forest” is held, that includes International Scientific and Technological conference “Actual Issues of Forest Complex Development”. The expo is held for the 18th time. This year, 22 regions of Russia and 20 foreign companies participate in the event. Delegations from Poland, Belarus and China have chosen to participate as guests from other countries.

Federal State-Funded Institution “Russian Centre of Wood Protection” has completed 75 years. Jubilee events were held on the 28th of November, 2013 in Pushkino. These events included Scientific and Practical conference “FSFI “Wood Protection” – guarding the health of the forests for 75 years”.

Following people participated in the events: deputy minister and head of Federal Forestry Agency V.A. Lebedev, deputy heads, heads of Russian Agriculture Ministry and affiliate organizations.

On the 29th of November, 2013 a Russian-Finnish Seminar was held at Saint-Petersburg Forestry Research Institute in the form of a video conference. The goal of the Seminar is to build partner relations and search for collaboration modes between Russian and Finnish scientists in order to acquire new knowledge, develop technology and innovations, as well as for practical realization of scientific developments in areas of mutual interest.
