V International Scientific and Practical Conference "Innovation and technology in forestry in 2016" (ITF-2016) was held in SPbFRI

31 May - 3 June 2016 St. Petersburg Forestry Research Institute with the support of Federal Forestry Agency had become a traditional V International scientific-practical conference "Innovations and technologies in forestry» (ITF-2016).

The conference was attended by over 300 people from 16 countries (Austria, Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus, Great Britain, Italy, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Georgia, Germany, Finland, Norway, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Sweden, United States). Among the participants – leading scientists and forestry practices, young researchers from leading universities and forest research institutes, representatives of business and management structures.

As part of the ITF-2016 it held two international events. One of them - Regional Workshop of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) on forest communication for countries from Eastern Europe, Caucasus and Central Asia. Presentations were made by experts from international organizations (FAO, the Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE)), the state government bodies of Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus, Georgia, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan, as well as representatives of non-governmental organizations. The participants shared their experience in conducting communication and awareness-raising activities in order to enhance public knowledge about the forest and forestry sector, to strengthen the status of forest-related professions and to promote environmental education.

The meeting of the international working group " Barents Forest Sector Network" held in the framework of ITF-2016 – one of the key activities in the forest sector during the Russian presidency of the Barents / Euro-Arctic Council from 2015 to 2017. The event was attended by representatives of the Federal Forestry Agency, the forest departments in Finland, Norway and Sweden. At the meeting, experts discussed the current status, management, use and reproduction of the boreal forest, bioenergy, public policy countries - members of the BEAC to strengthen the contribution and role of forests in carbon sequestration and climate change mitigation.
