Saint Petersburg awarded the title of European Forestry Capital 2015

A solemn ceremony was held on 28 April, 2015 at the Smolny Palace in St. Petersburg to bestow the title of European Forestry Capital 2015 to the city of St. Petersburg. Deputy Director for international and educational activities Koroleva Tatiana Stanislavna represented the Federal Budgetary Establishment “Saint-Petersburg Forestry Research Institute” at the event.

The ceremony was attended by representatives of the Saint Petersburg government administration, forest management bodies, the European Forest Institute, Saint Petersburg State University of Forest Technology, as well as leading experts in the field of forestry management.

In the solemn setting the director of the European Forestry Institute Marc Palau handed over the diploma to the vice-governor of St. Petersburg I.N.Albin. Marc Palau remarked that the title of European Forestry Capital is a recognition of the contribution of St. Petersburg in European educational and research activities in the field of forestry.

The title "European Forestry Capital" has been awarded by the European Forest Institute from 2014 for a one year period. The first European Forestry Capital was the city of Bilbao in Spain. In 2015, the title was transferred to St. Petersburg.
