The Deputy Director of Saint-Petersburg Forestry Research Institute made a report in the International Workshop on fire prevention

(19-21 March 2014, Barcelona, Spain) Alexander A. Steptchenko, Saint-Petersburg Forestry Research Institute Deputy Director for Regional Development as a member of the Russian delegation under the head of Federal Forestry Agency Deputy Administrator A. Panfilov took part in the European Forest Institute International Workshop “Russia-EU”: prevention of forest fires of various scales”.

The event program contained consideration of topical issues in the European Forest Institute and also a visit to the International Fire Management Center. The workshop participants met with fire-fighting experts from Great Britain, Ireland, France and Spain trainees in the educational centre.

Alexander A. Steptchenko, Saint-Petersburg Forestry Research Institute Deputy Director for Regional Development made a report “Regional System of Early Detection and Management Decision-Making Support for Forest Fire Protection”. Demonstration of radio-guided robot manufactured by Spanish company “Vallfirest” intended for clearing of firebreaks in the forest drew a practical interest. The possibility to carry out its test together with Krasnoyarsk SPBNIILH” FBU research laboratory in the Krasnoyarsk Territory was discussed.

The workshop participants are representatives of Federal Forestry Agency of the Russian Federation, the main specialists of European Forest Institute, experts of European research and development institutes and also representatives of Catalonia Ministry of Agriculture and Environment.
